This proceedings, Construction Congress, consists of papers presented at the 1995 Conference held in San Diego, California from October 22-26, 1995. State-of-the practice and state-of-the-art ideas and presentations are assembled in this volume. It covers a wide range of topics such as ground-water control, outfall construction, design-build delivery systems, productivity, automation, and construction quality assurance. Over the past decade, researchers and practitioners have been developing an improved understanding of landfill response under earthquake excitations. This book summarizes state-of-the-practice knowledge related to seismic design and performance of landfills. A wide range of topics are covered, including ground motion for landfill design; seismic response analysis of landfills; dynamic response analysis of geosynthetic systems; dynamic properties of landfill wastes; performance of landfills during recent earthquakes; and future research needs. Specific papers detail insitu testing methods for dynamic properties of municipal solid waste landfills; the classification of landfills for seismic stability assessment; slip displacements of geosynthetic systems under dynamic excitation; and more.
