The first publication of this book was like a bomb going off in the world of conservative evangelical scholarship. Fudge presents the case for the doctrine of annihilationism - He rejects the traditional view of hell as eternal torment, and claims instead that the Bible teaches that the lost will one day die forever. Needless to say, this ruffled a few feathers. But what was even more troubling to the world of evangelicalism was the very obvious strength of this case.
