WHITE PORCELAIN & PUNCH'ONG WARE

This book presents the discussion of Earthenware and Celadon, tracing the emergence and development of new design approaches, techniques and colouring that influenced Korean ceramic art during the Choson Kingdom (1392-1910). 'White Porcelain and Punch’ong ware' examines a gradual shift by Korean potters towards simple elegance accompanied by the growth of Confucianism in Korea. Jae-yeol Kim explains how Punch’ong ware and White Porcelain are the two most important traditions in the Choson dynasty and thus reflect through ceramics the history of its time. The artistic interplay of tradition and creativity is examined through 210 full-colour photographs that closely accompany the narrative. The ceramic works featured in this book guide the reader through five centuries of Korean history and artistic creation.
